New Law Requires Airguns to be Locked up to Prevent Access by Under-18s
Under a new law in force from from 10 February, owners will be liable for a fine of up to £1000 if they do not take reasonable precautions to stop unauthorised access to their airgun by people under the age of 18.
The Home Office suggests the following security measures to comply with the new law:
- store your airgun out of sight and separately from pellets
- use a robust, lockable cupboard and keep the keys separate and secure
- always store your airgun inside a house rather than in an out building, such as a garden shed
- never store a cocked or loaded airgun
- when using your airgun, keep it under close supervision and never leave it unattended
More information is available of the Home Office website.

SARPA Scottish FT Championship Results
- 1st Alan Chambers 32
- 2nd Dave Penman 31 (after shoot off)
- 3rd Guy Sidey 31
An excellent day with bright sunny weather and a warm changeable wind which made the course very testing. A very exciting finish - Guy and his shooting buddy were the last pair on the course (they started late). With 8 targets remaining to shoot Guy had only dropped 6. Alan had already posted a score of 32. So everyone knew what Guy had to beat (apart that is from Guy and his shooting partner).
A small crowd gathered at the end of the course to follow the action. Guy misses shots 33&34 (standers). He has now dropped 8 points and is level with Alan. Guy drops 35, 36, 37, 38 (all on the most difficult and windy part of the course). He is last shooter on course with only 39 and 40 to shoot (his buddy has already shot). He drops 39 and faceplates 40. It was all decided on the last shot of the event.

Cardross Game Fair 8th & 9th May 2010
The SARPA Management Committee would like to take thank all of those (members of New Kypeside, Westfield & the 50s Shooters Club along with a few others) who gave their time over the weekend to help on the SARPA stand. The weather was good with the sun shining over both days, although Saturday was warmer than Sunday, meaning that there was a large attendance at the Game Fair.
The SARPA stand was busy with many, of all ages ‘giving it a bash’ – it was great to see each and everyone enjoy the experience and to see the kids going away proudly with their certificates [thanks to Erna and Peter for producing them]. A fair number of enquiries were made regarding clubs; the map was handy for these people to decide which one to contact, and hopefully some of these will make contact and become members.
Much interest was shown in Andy’s rifle, proudly displayed and receiving many ooos and aahs and, as usual, disbelief that it was an airgun. A good weekend for SARPA in all respects but impossible without the help and input, before, during and after the event so once again. Thanks to all our volunteers.
Competition Winners:
Saturday : Brian Luke – Falkirk and Martin McCormick-Falkirk
Sunday: Alex Dow-Auchterarder and Tom Smith- Toward by Dunoon
Management Committee
As of 8th May 2010 Rosalind Williamson, present SARPA Secretary, is standing down with immediate effect as is John Noon, present SARPA Chairman. This has been discussed with all other Management Committee members and we both wish you all the best for the future.
Cardross Game Fair, 8th & 9th May - Helpers Needed for Come-and-Try-Shooting Stand
It is that time of year again, and as Cardross is the only Game Fair that SARPA now attends it is our one opportunity to raise some funds and also to promote our sport and the safe use of airguns. The Game Fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday 8th & 9th of May. We need volunteers to assist with the stand over the two days. We appreciate that weekends are busy times with family and personal commitments but we need your help. Please contact the SARPA Secretary via the contact page or your club representative with details of what day(s), and whether morning or afternoon suits you to assist on the come-and-try stand. This is a valuable opportunity to attract new people into Field Target, and to promote air rifle shooting to the broader country, farming and fieldsports community, so please do take the time to help out if you can.
Scots Shooters Take First and Second Prizes in 2010 BFTA Championship
